Old Shipmates

An oil-on-canvas painting of a man and his parrot. It is signed and dated "A.L. Grace - '39." The gilt/gesso over wood frame appears to be original to the painting and bears a tag identifying the name of the work and the artist. A stencil identifies the supplier of the canvas, Reeves and Sons Ltd, from their showroom at 178 High Street, Kensington (London). The National Portrait Gallery provides a resource for identifying British artists' suppliers. Per their database, Reeves and Sons Ltd had a showroom at that location from 1928 to 1934.
